Excursion Gothic quarter & public markets tour at Barcelona

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

From the comfort of your coach, enjoy the views of Columbus Monument, the Old Port's installations, the Noucentist Avenue of Via Laietana and the Roman City Walls, until reaching the millenary heart of Barcelona and immersing in your enchanting traditional Markets walk through the ancient Barri Gotic - the Gothic Quarter.

Gothic Quarter

An island within the urban metropolis with narrow streets of ancient stone and historical buildings, the Gothic Quarter hosts the eternal administrative core of the city, with both the Palau de la Generalitat (Catalan Government palace) and l'Ajuntament (Town Hall), located on opposite sides of the over five centuries old Sant Jaume's Square. Follow your guide too through the vestiges of the Old Roman City of Barcino, medieval palaces and squares such as Plaça del Rei and Barcelona's main Cathedral of Santa Eulalia.

Public Markets

Just across Via Laietana, the oldest "path" in town, you will also visit the renewed Mercat of Santa Catarina, indeed a magnificent showcase of tradition, architectural innovation and recent archaeological excavations. In this area you will have the chance to taste the local flavours enjoying a snack.

La Boqueria

A lovely route which will bring you to the very entrance of the Mercat of La Boqueria, Barcelona's most popular and colourful market, where time will also be provided to enjoy the lively atmosphere of the place and sample local products, direct from a market stall.

Las Ramblas

Returning to the maze of the Gothic area, and on your way to Barcelona's world famous boulevard of Las Ramblas, you will discover with your guide some of the city's most beautiful and hidden corners such as the square and church of Sant Felip Neri (architect Antoni Gaudí's daily place of confession), the alleys of the Medieval Jewish Ghetto, El Call, or the charming surroundings of the medieval Cathedral of Santa María del Pí.

Of course, your tour could not be completed without a stroll through the widely known and always vibrant tree-shaded Las Ramblas. Free time will be provided for you to browse among the souvenir and traditional goods shops of the area, finishing your tour with a visit to Plaça Catalunya, Barcelona's main square and the real hub between the old and the new city.
