Discover the 'Happiest Garden on Earth' in Akaroa during this picturesque sightseeing excursion to the Giant's House.


Akaroa Harbour, Giant's House, Meet the Owner, Afternoon Tea

Depart the pier for the short drive to the Giant's House. Upon arrival, you are greeted by the owner of the property, Josie. Afterward, proceed for afternoon tea or coffee served with homemade baking whilst Josie recounts the history of the house and its world-renowned garden. Following afternoon tea, some free time is made available to explore the garden at your leisure.

Named a Garden of International Significance by the New Zealand Guardian Trust (NZGT) and world-renowned as the 'Happiest Garden on Earth', this exquisite house was built in 1880 of Totara and Kauri timber around the home of the first Bank Manager in Akaroa. Marvel at the unique garden artwork, which includes mosaic steps, an extraordinary sculptural wall mosaic, welded-steel sculptures, and a contemporary art gallery.


At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for up to 219 yards (about 200 metres), at times over uneven, grassy, and natural surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and 50 intermittent steps at the venue. Walking at the Giant's House and Sculpture Garden is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection, and bottled water from the ship.
