Excursion El zanj tour at Buenos Aires
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Discover the origins of Buenos Aires and tango dancing during a picturesque, half-day sightseeing excursion to this historic city.
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive to La Boca, one of the first neighbourhoods where the earliest Italian immigrants to Buenos Aires started building this unique city. Upon arrival, a visit is made to Caminito Street, a colourful street museum and alley in La Boca.
Next, re-board your coach and continue on to the neighbourhood of San Telmo, where it is believed that the Tango was born.
Upon arrival, a stop is made at El Zanjón de Granados, a series of excavated ancient tunnels that serve as both an archaeological museum and event space. Following your guided visit to the tunnels, proceed on-foot to a local Tango House.
Tango dancing reflects the origins and feelings of Buenos Aires immigrants, their nostalgia and the bohemia of the late-1800s. Al the Tango House you are taught the basic steps of the mesmerizing tango dance, with its sensuous moves and gestures, including the 'Walk', 'Rock', 'Stroll' and 'Chase'. By listening to the beat, get the feel for the alternating quick and slow steps, and the seductive embrace known as the 'Tango Lean'.
