Excursion Amazing antrim - giant’s causeway tour at Belfast

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

The spectacular Antrim Coast and Giant's Causeway are the jewels in Northern Ireland's crown. From the rugged cliffs of the coast to the magical beauty of the Glens, here is the best of what Northern Ireland has to offer. Visit the Giants' Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where for centuries visitors have been intrigued by its mystery and majesty.

In your cooled coach, leave Belfast behind, and head north through quaint villages and verdant countryside. Travel to the Port town of Larne and where you will join the spectacular Antrim Coast road. Continue onwards through the picturesque villages of Ballygalley and Glenarm to Cushendall, known as the "Capital of the Glens". En route, a stop is made for tea or coffee and light snack at Londonderry Arms.

Giant's Causeway

Onwards along the scenic coast road where a stop will be made at the viewing point overlooking Carrick A Rede Rope Bridge, spanning a chasm some eighty feet deep, its construction once consisted of a single rope handrail and widely spaced slats, which the fishermen would traverse across to catch salmon off the island.

Continue onto the Giant's Causeway's 40,000 stone uniform columns, formed millions of years ago with the cooling of molten lava. Exploring the cobblestone-like paths, it is easy to see why the Giant's Causeway is a World Heritage Site, a National Site and a National Nature Reserve. After leaving the Giant's Causeway board the coach for a short transfer to a local establishment where you will enjoy a delicious lunch.

Dunluce Castle

After lunch, travel to the ruins of Dunluce Castle for a photo stop. Dating to the 13th century, the castle has long since lost its roof however, its two large drum towers and many of the walls remain intact. The Castle's windswept location on the Craggy Coast makes it a truly awe-inspiring vantage point.

After enjoying this beautiful sight return to Belfast Port on the motorway running through the scenic inland countryside.
