Excursion Alghero & nuraghe palmavera tour at Alghero

Experience the splendid beauty of Sardinia during a scenic and memorable visit to the Nuraghe Palmavera archaeological site, the Capo Caccia Belvedere and Alghero's Old Town.

After tendering ashore, board your coach for the scenic drive along the coastal road to Nuraghe Palmavera which is located approximately 6 miles (about 10 kilometres) from town.

Nuraghe Palmavera

From the bus parking area, proceed on foot to the archaeological site. During a walking tour of the premises, your guide explains the history and significance of these remarkable remains dating from the civilization that existed here about 1300-1200 B.C. The main tower is an excellent example of Sardinia's earliest inhabitants, who remain a prehistoric enigma. Ancient writers called them the 'Nuraghic' people, named after their stone dwellings, the 'Nuraghi'. These structures are unique to Sardinia, just as the Aztec pyramids are to Mexico.

Capo Caccia Belvedere

Next your drive continues on to Capo Caccia Belvedere, where a photo stop is made for spectacular panoramic views of the Coral Riviera, or 'Riviera del Corallo'. After the photo stop, re-board the coach for the approximately one-hour drive back to Alghero. Upon arrival, take a walking tour of the Catalan-styled Old Town.

Alghero's Old Town

The best way to see this appealing walled town with its distinctly Spanish-Catalan flavour is on-foot. During your brief walking tour your guide points out Alghero's most notable attractions. Along the way, a visit is made to the Church of San Francesco and its 14^th-century cloister, centrally located in the Spanish Quarter.

Following your walking tour, some free time is made available to browse the local shops at your leisure before walking the short distance back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking over surfaces that can bumpy, uneven and with cobblestones in the spots, and is not recommended for guest with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. The order of the tour may vary. The minimum age to participate is 6 years old. Wear comfortable clothing and flat walking shoes. Bring a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses.
